Stella & Marcy: Brace Obedience
Training classes are currently in session via the Mid-Hudson Kennel Assoc, ltd. I am teaching Beginner and Advanced Beginner Classes starting September 16, 2008 at 6:00PM on Tuesday evenings via the Mid-Hudson Kennel Association, Ltd... Doggie Socials are on hold, but call if interested, and I will try to form a group...
For any dog over 6 months of age. This class is all done on a 4 or 6 foot leash and teaches you how to train your own dog. The emphasis is on step by step motivational training to build a firm obedience foundation. At the completion of the course the dog should be able to walk at your left side without pulling, sit ,down, stay at the end of a 4 or 6 ft lead for 1 minute, lie down for 3 minutes and come when called on a leash. Your commitment to this class will determine your success.
This class is a continuation of our Beginner class. It assumes the handler already understands the basic commands: sit/down/stay/heel. This class works on a 6 ft. leash and prepares the dog and handler for off-leash training. At the discretion of the instructor, an experienced handler my be able to take this class in lieu of beginners. My training classes include: puppy play-groups to adult and "Doggie Socials" in our fenced in yard. I offer basic obedience instruction, and CGC classes, in a group setting as well as occasional private instruction. I have raised and trained Bernese Mt. Dogs since 1989, earning obedience titles with my dogs. I had been an instructor for Mid-Hudson Kennel Association, Ltd for more than 8 years; and their AKC obedience trial chair for 4 years. I am also a member of the Association Pet Dog Trainers. I attend classes, training, and behavior seminars when I can, to learn new methods and philosophies of training and 'tweak' old... Doggie Socials are "play dates' in a controlled fenced-in setting. The Dog Park setting of my fenced-in yard is the location of hours of fun and exercise. Owners and their dogs are screened and invited based on compatability. Aggressive dogs (and people) are 'not invited ' for the safety of all. Dogs that NEED socialization are invited in a controlled setting at another time; where training is part of the fun! Please reserve 'your spot' as I try to schedule compatable dogs together. Space is limited. Becausse of the gage of my fence, I do not hold Doggie socials for Toy breeds. The fee for Doggie Socials is $8/week; a series of 8 weeks is $56.00; Coffee is served...Owners are expected to clean up after their dogs, and kindly give notice if they are going to miss a session... As a trainer and AKC CANINE GOOD CITIZEN EVALUATOR, I strongly believe in training and socializing... Please contact me if you seek an AKC-CGC Evaluator for your event... The American Kennel Club is pleased to share the news that in some regions, Nationwide Insurance is issuing homeowners insurance to owners of breeds previously prohibited by the company, providing the dog passes the AKC Canine Good Citizen test... The next CGC Test will be held: September 9, 2006 Bowdoin Park, Poughkeepsie, NY as part of the " Dutchess County Paws In The Park"' Pet Walk and the AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day Event.
