DOGGIE SOCIALS

Doggie Socials are informal play and train sessions.
These 'play dates' are in a controlled fenced-in setting.
The 'Dog Park' setting of my ¾ acre fenced-in yard is the location of hours of fun and exercise. Owners and their dogs are screened and invited based on compatibility.

Aggressive dogs (and peopleSurprised) are 'not invited' for the safety of all, during these sessions. Sessions for the socially-challenged can be arranged.

Usually it's all free-play; but sometimes the group requests some behavior modification and/or training etc. Weave poles, jumps, and tire jump (no agility contacts at this time) add to the stimulation.

Doggie Socials are a time for both humans and dogs to socialize and relax. It's a chance for dogs to run and play freely off-leash without the worries of bothersome non-dog folk or traffic. The yard is large enough for any dog to get ample exercise at full speed, and small enough for visibility and "control."

Coffee and tea is always available. Sometimes baked goods; often folks enjoy bringing something for "the table."

Depending on group dynamics, some basic obedience is done and/or behavior discussed etc. and "problem" solving or behavior issues addressed.

It is encouraged to have the same group at each session whether you join in once or twice a week. The dogs become friends and bond this way- and the pack the same. Newcomers change the group dynamics! (I find it interesting from a behavior standpoint, but it can also be stressful for some.) I try to schedule those with like energy levels and/or size in the same group... Sometimes I include my own dogs in the mix... sometimes not... My dogs are friendly, but large, and can be intimidating to some folks- so depending on dynamics, depends on who from my lot I might include...

  • Please reserve your space as I try to schedule compatible dogs together. Space is somewhat limited.
  • Because of the gage of my fence, I do not hold Doggie socials for Toy breeds.

As a trainer and AKC CANINE GOOD CITIZEN EVALUATOR, I strongly believe in training and socializing!

I cancel if really wet/muddy (I don't want dogs slipping and injuring themselves.) or in the summer, if it's too hot...
Sessions run rain or shine; warm or cold; dress appropriately!
But, if RED HOOK Schools are CLOSED or there is a 2hr. delay due to bad weather, I cancel. (I don't want anyone to feel compelled to have to drive in anything I don't wish to drive in myself!) If questionable, please call. You may use your paid sessions at anytime, BUT please try to come on a regular basis, within the season you first sign up. Call to 'reserve' your space if you roll-over your sessions into the next season, or to be sure they are being held. Doggie socials are held based on interest. Sessions missed due to weather cancellations will be made up.

Folks come for a number of reasons, but mainly for socialization, of course. Some have "issues" they wish to work through- but dog-dog/dog-human aggression is NOT tolerated during these particular socials. Sessions where aggression (not to be confused with dominance) is the place for them. This time is meant to be fun and relaxing for all; a place for dogs to run off steam in a safe setting. I do have folks who wish to work on recalls and basic obedience and manner exercises during the distraction of other dogs...

If you would like to work on heeling, or trick training, let me know!

For all's best interest: Dogs need to be healthy, up-to-date on vaccines or titers; internal parasite free (tested w/in the past year.) Bordatella (kennel cough vacc.) is recommended. Owners are expected to pick up after their dogs.

*PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG IF THEY HAVE HAD DIARHEA OR OTHER AILMENT WITHIN THE PREVIOUS 24 HOURS! EVEN IF YOU KNOW WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED IT! PLEASE ERR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION! Thanks!
