About Me:

My name is Rebecca, I have been involved with dogs my whole life. I grew up with Scottish Terriers, and got my first Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier when I was 8. It was with the Scotties I first learned how to groom and with the Wheatens that I learned what matting really was! I got my first Bernese Mountain Dog when I was in Graduate school at Syracuse University. Later, in 1996, I graduated from the NY School of Dog Grooming, and am now the owner, groomer, and trainer of Canine-Corner "from hair to heel" (est.1996) Along with our Bernese Mountain Dogs I am an AKC-Canine-Ambassador; and the dogs are Registered Service Dogs- (registered with Therapy Dogs International (TDI) We are available for R.E.A.D. programs, visitations and demonstrations to area facilities and groups. There is no fee for this service, but I do need advanced notice to be sure you are on my schedule! In addition to nursing homes and hospitals, we visit Head Start Programs, local schools, scouts and 4-H groups....

Where Your Pet is Cleaned Naturally! Est. 1996; Red Hook, NY 12571. Canine-Corner is a full-service Canine and Feline grooming salon, located in my home. The potential high stress and noise of a busy shop is eliminated here. Your pet's comfort, and your satisfaction are both very important to me. I use natural, organic, biodegradable products as much as possible. As your Groomer, it is as important to me as to you, for you to have a pet you can live with & not resent due to hair, mats or odors. I offer regular grooming appointments, and flexible hours that meet your busy schedule.

This is also the home of CCBernese Mountain Dogs (since 1989.)
Here you will find information on the beloved Bernese Mountain Dog. What's great about them, as well as what may be a negative factor for you. As a small/limited Bernese Mountain Dog Breeder, if you are seeking a Berner of your own, I hope to provide you with more than enough information to set you on the right track. My breeding program is small. Health, longevity, temperament, and living up to the breed standard are my main concerns and goals. ALL dogs (breeding or not!) are tested and screened for a number of hereditary disorders common in the breed. After all, if I want to keep a pup from my litter, I want it to be just as healthy as you do!

Training:

As a Trainer, while I understand there are as many methods of training as there are trainers, and what works with one dog or handler does not necessarily work with another, My training philosophy includes SOFT HANDLING and POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT methods. Through a praise and reward philosophy, a happy, responsive, obedient dog is mastered. I am a registered AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluator, and feel the AKC 10-part test is a valuable tool and goal for any dog/handler team. My training classes include: puppy play-groups to adult and "Doggie Socials" in our fenced in yard. I offer basic obedience instruction, and CGC classes, in a group setting as well as occasional private instruction. I have raised and trained Bernese Mt. Dogs since 1989, earning obedience titles with my dogs. I had been an instructor for Mid-Hudson Kennel Association, Ltd for more than 8 years; and their AKC obedience trial chair for 4. I am also a member of the Association Pet Dog Trainers [APDT.] I attend classes and seminars when I can, to learn new methods and philosophies of training and 'tweak' old...

My dogs are active service dogs and registered with Therapy Dogs International (TDI). We regularly visit nursing homes, schools, Head Start Programs. We participate in Reading Educational Assistance Dog Programs; (R.E.A.D.) 4-H and Scout patch programs. This all done on a volunteer basis. If you would like a visit or a demo, please call with advanced notice and I will try my best to schedule your visit.

 

Boarding

Boarding Is Now Available! Per Diem and Weekends for Grooming Clients...

*Dogs live freely about the house and sleep in the bedrooms (or where they choose) as our own.

No kennel runs; large fenced in yard.
